Amino Acids to Prevent Catabolism
Bodybuilders and other athletes try so hard to build muscle, they are willing to crowd their veins with numerous anabolic steroids, take a sledgehammer to their liver with pro-hormones, and increase their hat size with HGH. The biggest fear after gaining so much muscle? Losing it all! That’s right, they fear catabolism, a state in which the body begins to lose size and the process of muscle wasting starts because of the nutrients contained in muscle tissue. People trying to cut fat will lose a great deal of muscle. In fact, most dieters and clients of Personal Trainers become very discouraged when they lose weight, but their body fat percentage remains the same. This is also due to the process of catabolism. Because metabolism increases as lean muscle increases, it is vital for both bodybuilders and the average dieter to keep as much muscle as possible.
So how can the bodybuilder and the average person prevent this process of catabolism? By using the building blocks of muscle, amino acids. Specifically, Branched Chain Amino Acids or BCAA’s. Three essential amino acids make up this critical blend: Leucine, Isoleucine, and Valine. According to a study published by the Journal of Nutrition, BCAA’s stimulate the synthesis of protein in the body. Elevated concentrations of Leucine in the blood stream can prevent the breakdown of muscle tissue. Also, it has been shown that BCAA’s are more effective in preventing the breakdown of muscle than Leucine alone.
But BCAA’s appear to have other redeeming qualities. The same study showed that chronic fatigue was lessened by supplementation with BCAA's. It is believed that the amino acids are responsible for the release of neurotransmitters in the brain, which prevent fatigue. This is important to athletes and others who are engaged in physical activities and interested in improving performance.
Although more research is needed it would appear that supplementing with BCAA’s, especially during a diet phase can prevent the loss of muscle tissue. Best Supplement Guide believes that taking BCAA’s can be very beneficial for everyone looking to maintain muscle and metabolism.
