Best Supplement Guide's Review Of BSN

Overall Review: 3 out of 5 stars

Good: Formulas and Taste

Bad: High Price, Slick Marketing

With so many sections of supplement stores filled with sports nutrition products, and so much emphasis placed on bodybuilding in the internet forums and online stores, it seems only right that Best Supplement Guide should do a review of the top manufacturers of bodybuilding supplements. So we’ve decided to do a review of the most popular sports nutrition brand today: BSN.

We would be amiss if we did not mention the man who brought BSN into the spotlight, 8-time Mr. Olympia Ronnie Coleman. It wasn’t until Ronnie signed an endorsement deal with BSN that the manufacturer really began to dominate the market. Coleman almost single-handedly brought the company their top-selling product: N.O. Xplode, a pre-training product with Creatine Ethyl Esther, Arginine, Citrulline Malate and other ingredients meant to allow blood to flow better during workouts, as well as provide cognitive enhancement. The formula is a powder, which is stirred in water to create a carbonated effect that is supposed to allow for better absorption by the body. We have personally tried N.O. Xplode and recommend it for gaining muscle, however, it is quite hard on the stomach. The carbonation doesn’t sit well in the gut if you catch our drift. A ready-to-drink form of N.O. Xplode, called Endorush, is available. The product works well for increasing energy levels, but is without the Creatine.

Best Bodybuilding Stack for Beginners

BSN also produces two other creatine-based products, which complete their “Mass Stack.” These are Nitrix and Cellmass. Cellmass is another great product, designed to be taken post-workout. Nitrix comes in a pill form and is marketed as a vasodilator (increases blood flow). The “Mass Stack” has been very popular for many years and the products continue to outsell competitors.

BSN, aside from being the market leader in creatine and arginine products, also makes quite tasty proteins. Syntha 6 is a protein that contains casein, whey, and soy protein, as well as essential fats and carbohydrates, and is marketed as an all-day protein, meaning it is digested at different levels throughout the day, supplying the body with ample protein. Though the formula tastes good, it is not as high quality as some of the other competing proteins on the market. Syntha 6 is also quite expensive for the amount of servings per container. Alternatively, its higher calorie relative, True-Mass, is possibly the best tasting gainer shake on the market. For those looking the pack on some pounds, True-Mass will help with over 640 calories per serving. There is also a protein by BSN called Dessert. Don’t get too excited though, True-Mass and Syntha 6 are more effective and taste better!

Recently, BSN has broken into the fat loss market with products like Athro-Plex, Cheaters Relief. These formulas are actually quite generic as weight control products go and are way overpriced. There are many more cost-effective formulas available.

Best Fat Loss Stack

BSN also makes a Male Hormone support product called Axis HT. The basic formulation consists of Tribulus, which is designed to enhance libido, Zinc Magnesium Aspartate (ZMA), Eurycoma Longifolia, and Coleus Forskohlii. All of these ingredients are natural and not androgenic, however the science to support the rise in testosterone levels from these ingredients is lacking. Although we have heard anecdotal reports of increased libido and strength from products like Axis HT, we believe we have the responsibility to tell you there need to be more studies conducted to prove the effectiveness of these plant sterols. This is quite enough evidence to show that Zinc does help support elevated testosterone levels in men. While this product could have some effect in boosting T-levels, the price is quite high at nearly 50 dollars wholesale!

Albeit BSN has the coolest looking containers in the supplement world today, we are definitely paying for the clear, red carton. BSN does make effective and great tasting products such as N.O. Xplode, Cellmass, True Mass and Syntha 6.

Overall, Best Supplement Guide gives BSN a thumbs-up as manufacturers go. For bodybuilders looking to supplement their diets with Creatine and Protein, give BSN’s products a try.
